Overview of System Components

Overview

The K2 Guardian system comprises a number of key components some of which are provided and installed by K2 Medical Systems Ltd (K2) and some that are to be provided and installed by the Customer.  This document details each of those components and where computer hardware or network services are required, lists the technical specifications required.
Each delivery room will generally contain a K2 Portal, used to collect intrapartum data.  This data is then stored in a central SQL database which forms the core of the system.
Centralised monitoring is achieved by using one or more Central Station components which collect real-time data transmitted by the Portals in order to display a list of admitted patients along with live CTG information.
Athena software allows for input of ante natal and post-delivery information as well as providing the ability to view the centralised live CTG data similar to that displayed by Central Station.

K2 Portal

Also known as the bedside monitor, this is a touch screen device that is installed in each delivery room and runs the K2 Guardian software. The Portal can be optionally connected via a serial cable to a CTG recording machine in order to collect CTG data.

The K2 Portal communicates with a database server in order to store collected patient data, along with exchanging real-time data with the Central Station and other Portals.  The sharing of real-time data between Portals allows fingerprint registrations and password changes to be quickly replicated to other Portals and warns users should they attempt to admit already admitted patients.

Network Requirements

  1. Both wired and wireless networks are supported.  Enterprise (802.1x) Wireless connectivity using user or certificate authentication is supported from Portal v3.
  2. IPv4 configured via either DHCP or static IP settings.
  3. Communicates with the database server on TCP port 1433.
  4. Please see the Network Ports Requirements section below for addition network port requirements depending on software version in use.

Domain membership

  1. This is not supported

Anti-Virus software

  1. This is not required.  The Portal only communicates with other components in the K2 system and uses write protected storage.
