Infrastructure Requirements - Web / Application Server

Infrastructure Requirements - Web / Application Server

The web server hosts the Clinical Web Portal (browser based Athena and remote surveillance), PAS listener and other interface services, along with deployment locations for the K2 software.  Whilst it is possible for these services to be hosted on the database server, it is not recommended.

Technical Specifications

  • OS: Windows Server 2016 or higher.
  • RAM: 8 GB or higher.
  • Storage: 80 GB minimum.
  • Processor: 2.0 GHz or higher.
  • Dedicated server preferred (not shared).
  • Can be virtualised.

Additional Roles & Software

  • IIS.
  • .Net Framework 4.6.1 or latest version
  • .Net Core 2.2.3 server and hosting package
  • Telnet client, Putty or similar

K2 Software (Installed by K2MS)

  • Real time Guardian data service or Ward Hub Web API
  • Guardian Configuration Tool (for setting up rooms, configuring broadcast address within Guardian)
  • Wizard Editor (for editing/updating clinical model by K2)
  • WinMerge (third party file comparison software used by Wizard Editor)
  • Interface Services, such as PAS, NN4B
  • MS ClickOnce or MSI packages for installation of Athena.  MSI requires separate deployment by Customer IT

Network Requirements

  • TCP / IP communication to database server.
  • Please see the table below for additional network ports requirements depending on software version in use.

Real Time Service (Athena Chalkboard)
  1. Transmission of real-time data between Portals and Central Station is via broadcast traffic on UDP port 5025 by default.  This can be configured to unicast traffic or a different port if required.
  2. K2 recommends that due to the broadcasting of real-time data, a VLAN containing key Portals and their corresponding Central Station is configured.  For example, it is likely that all the Portal on the Birth Suite will be required to be displayed on Central Station, whilst those Portals in Antenatal may not be required to be shown.  In this scenario a VLAN could be created to contain the Birth Suite Portals and Central Station but would not need to contain the Antenatal Portals.
  3. If wireless Portals employed, broadcast or multicast traffic will need to pass between the wireless network and the K2 VLAN if wireless Portals are required to communicate with Central Station.
  4. Routed access from the K2 VLAN is required for Portals, Central Station and EDC to connect to the database server and web server from within the VLAN.
