Guardian Overview

Guardian Overview

K2MS Guardian is an electronic medical record system that also provides archiving and central monitoring for maternity wards and birth suites.

For a more detailed overview go to http://www.k2ms.com/guardiantraining/

Please note that there are essentially two ways that K2MS Guardian can be implemented:
1. Full intrapartum record including antenatal , intrapartum, partogram, delivery and immediate postnatal documentation; or
2. CTG only documentation.

For avoidance of doubt, most of this guide will refer to the full functionality available within the system. Please contact K2 if you require further information on the scope of your Guardian System implementation.

The system captures CardioTocoGram (CTG) trace (Cardio - baby’s heart rate and Toco - mother’s contractions) from compatible Fetal recorders, and allows users to document and share contemporaneous labour information with other clinicians. The system can also support clinical decision making.

Information is collected at the bedside via a K2MS Portal™(bespoke touch screen PC with embedded OS) and simultaneously relayed to a Database Server, other bedside K2MS Portals and a Central Surveillance Application. All collected information can be shared, in real time, within, and outside the Hospital to improve patient care and reduce human error.

The Central Surveillance Application displays the CTG information recorded in each of the rooms together on one (or more) screens.  The Central Station also provides a feed to an internal (to the hospital network) Web Server where consultants can view all the rooms via a Remote Viewing Service (Clinical Web Portal)

The Athena Desktop Application allows users to record pertinent care episode data from outside the room to complete the information required for perinatal data collection. Archived cases already recorded can also be retrieved and viewed directly from the database.

IMPORTANT WARNING: The system is NOT intended to be used to:
• Automate fetal monitoring
• Reduce contact time with patients
• De-skill Clinicians. The Clinician remains responsible for the care of the patient.

All of the above components and applications are covered by a Customer Service Level Agreement (terms and conditions can be viewed here). A current service level agreement is a mandatory requirement for continued use of the system.
