Guardian Online

Guardian Online

uardian Online is a web based service that provide consultants with view only access to currently monitored patients from their smartphone/ tablet or laptop.

Important Patient Safety Notes

  1. ALWAYS check with the onsite caregiver that the patient information being reviewed remotely is for the correct patient. Check names, dates of births and also check features of the CTG to ensure that remote user is viewing the correct information.
  2. TAKE CARE when interpreting fetal monitoring remotely on devices that render the CTG on small displays. The limited resolution of the remote display and its physical size may subtly misrepresent the tracing. Subtle features may be less apparent on these smaller displays.
  3. ALWAYS discuss the nature of the fetal heart rate monitoring with the local care giver and arrive at a joint interpretation. NEVER rely on the remote clinical data to form a diagnosis in isolation from the information presented local to the patient.
  4. DO NOT access patient records unless you have a good clinical reason to do so. All access to patient records is logged and if unauthorised patient record access discovered, your rights to use this service may be revoked. As a user of the Clinical Web Portal you are responsible for maintaining patient data confidentiality when viewing case notes on your device. Please refer to the Caldicott Principles of Patient Confidentiality for further guidance.
This service is intended for use by obstetricians and midwives ONLY and is NOT to be used to reduce or replace bedside care, nor in isolation from bedside monitoring.

Viewing a currently admitted Woman’s Record

Depending upon the size of your organisation, you may be given a choice as which location you wish to view currently admitted patients from.

A ‘chalkboard’ of currently admitted women in room number order will then be displayed for that location. Touch or click on the patient of interest to view their CTG, partogram (if enabled for your hospital) and notes.

Touching the  Show More  button will display the SaFERR* view of the current woman's labour status (example shown below):

* SaFERR is designed as a clinical handover tool similar to SBAR. SaFERR stands for Situation, Features, Evaluation, Risks and Requirements.

Clicking on the woman's name will first display any currently captured CTG trace (example shown below).

if you are using a handheld device, you may find it easier to view more trace by rotating the device into landscape view. The CTG view can also be scrolled left and right by dragging or flicking your finger across the screen.

Clicking or touching on the CTG Trace dropdown menu will list the available views available for display:

NOTE! The tabs available at your Hospital may be different to those in this guide e.g. you may only have access to demographics and labour record. Other tabs will only be displayed if your Hospital is documenting the woman’s complete obstetric record in Guardian.
